The New Zealand Institute of Driver Educators (NZIDE) annual National Conference. Open to all. Pre-registration is essential. Numbers are limited. Two days of International and local speakers, government guests, professional development and networking. Lunch both days. Annual general meeting (AGM) Friday afternoon. Evening dinner function. The evening dinner function dress theme is "celebrities past and present". Prizes for best dressed! All conference prices exclude GST. Price discounts apply for NZIDE members.


NOTE: If you are not a member and want member rates, apply for membership ASAP here. Membership is first year free for first time sign-ups. Complete qualified membership applications with ID received this week will be processed at conference membership rates. Expired members, login and renew.     Peter identifies as Ngati Pakeha (Brit, Scot, Dane, Swede). He was elected NZIDE President in 2021, served as Secretary from 2020-2021 and has been a member since 2015. Peter served on the Driving Change Network steering committee, and is a member of the Institute of Directors NZ, a national body with over 10,000 members. He lives in Porirua and works in the Wellington region as a full time driving instructor. Peter serves with the New Zealand Defence Force. He did prior work with the Ministry of Justice in project governance and executive administrative roles. His community work included residential services with Oranga Tamariki and alternative education with the Ministry of Education. Weekday early mornings you'll find Peter trail running or trail riding. On weekends it is outdoor work, whanau and friends.

    Dr Shaun Helman works at the Transport Research Laboratory TRL Limited. It is an independent private company offering a transport consultancy and research service to the public and private sector. Originally established in 1933 by the UK Government as the Road Research Laboratory (RRL), it was privatised in 1996. Shaun is TRL’s Chief Scientist for Behavioural Sciences. He is an applied cognitive and social psychologist with nearly two decades’ experience in road safety, road user behaviour, and human-technology integration. His research focuses on the safety of young and newly qualified drivers, vulnerable road user safety (especially visibility and conspicuity) and work-related road safety. More generally, his research and commentary focus on raising the standards of evaluation and evidence in the transport domain, including research into automated driving technologies, low-emission vehicles, and the emergence of new models of the movement of people and goods such as shared mobility. He has a track record of delivering projects which impact directly on government policy and advice to road users, including many of the changes in the last decade to driver testing and licensing in Great Britain. He has written over 120 journal articles and customer reports since 2002 and has presented at numerous national and international conferences on road safety and other transport issues. He represents TRL at the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, acts as a reviewer for several scientific journals and grant bodies, and is a Trustee of the Road Safety Trust.

    Greg Murphy is a New Zealand racing driver best known as a four-time winner of the Bathurst 1000. He started karting when he was just eight years old and after winning a television set, secured a place in the Shell Scholarship at Richard Lester’s Manfeild Racing School. He won the Bathurst 24 Hour race in the Garry Rogers Motorsport built, 7.0 litre V8 Holden Monaro 427C alongside Peter Brock, Jason Bright and Todd Kelly in November of 2003. He appeared on the BBC TV series “Top Gear” alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May when it visited New Zealand in 2009 and 2010. Greg was Ambassador for the Holden Street Smart programme. He is now Ambassador for AutoSense Limited, a company that uses in vehicle technology to promote driver safety. Greg frequency appears in media to speak on road safety. He lives in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

    Croydon is the Industry Manager for Hanga-Aro-Rau. Assessor training and testing standards for drivers and riders on New Zealand roads are split responsibilities between the regulator, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Hanga-Aro-Rau took responsibility assessor approval and moderation from the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO). Hanga-Aro-Rau now coordinate the five year mandatory review of all unit standards and achievement standards (17 of them) related to driving. Hanga-Aro-Rau talk to NZIDE through the Commercial Transport National Industry Advisor Group (NIAG) that Croydon coordinates. At least four NZIDE members contributed to the last unit standards review in 2020. It was put out for consultation.

    Bruce spent 16 years with the New Zealand Police in road policing and crash investigation. During that time he attended over 1,000 crashes – of which 300 resulted in serious injury or death. In his final years with New Zealand Police he was a subject matter expert and national trainer for crash investigation. Bruce is an NZQA / NZTA certified Child Restraint Technician, Trainer and the ‘dude‘ behind The Car Seat Dude.
